As Brevard and the surrounding areas prepared for the once in a life time solar eclipse on August 21, the Brevard Music Center held a weekend of fun events to ring in the occasion. On two weekend nights leading up to the eclipse BMC showed the movies Apollo 13 and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
For the occasion we were tasked with providing a full audio and visual cinematic experience at the Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium on Brevard Music Center’s campus in Brevard. The 20' x 11' rear projection screen was the star of the show which was projected on by two Barco R12+ 12,000 lumen projectors converged for additional brightness and redundancy. Rounding out the video equipment included a Barco Screen Pro II seamless switcher/controller with dual computer playback for redundancy.
On the Audio side of things we built a mini ground stack of three d&b Q1 line arrays per side, d&b E3 front fills on edge of the stage, and two d&b B22 subs under the screen for additional low end (which provided that nice added rumble when the rockets took off in the films). All in all, a spectacular way to view a couple classic films and set the tone for the once in a life time event the following day.
